Forth round for the the braves
After two rather usual rounds in the forth day
we could spot many interesting games. Now the
tournament has two sole leader Aleksaerra
Mista and Julian Radulski.
The most important games were played on two
highest boards, but other games also brought us
interesting results. The biggest surprise of the
round was for sure a clear loss of GM Siergiey
Zhigalko with white, who was totally destroyed by
Radulski. In some sense also a win of Aleksander
Mista was unexpected. Grandmaster from Ostroda
for the first time in this tournament didn't have
a completly lost posiotion. But Vadim Malakhatko
could have easily drawn an outcoming endgame. He
played few weaker moves and finally had to
resign. On few further board we could observe
draws. Most interesting of them was in
Olszewski-Socko. According to computer the
advantage was switching from one side to another.
It looks like draw was a fair result.
Two most crazy games were Rej-Jakubowski and
Matuszewski-Vysochin. In both cases grandmasters,
who were playing with black, gained a serious
material advantage and it looked like they will
win convincingly. It appears that a bravery of
young players was rewarded. Krzysiek Jakubowski
blundered a beautiful tactical blow, after which
he could resign imediately, then Michal
Matuszewski developed a devastating attack on
opponent's king left in the center.
Hammer and Macieja both won easily and are
chasing the leading group wiht three points.
Victor Erdos also who drew very quickly against
Krzysztofiak.
In fifth round we will focus on watching
Radulski and Mista. It should be an interesting
game that can influence the turn of events.
Three rounds, three leaders
Summary of the third round has to start with a
sad anouncement. GM Algimantas Butnorious who had
2/2 had to withdrawn from the tournament because
of family tragedy. In that way his opponent GM
Julian Radulski happened to be one of the leader
with 3 victories out of 3 games. The style of all
three leaders are completlty different. Radulski
was quite happy in the second round, when he won
a dubious position against Marcin Krzyzanowski.
In yesterday game he got a free day. Other
leader, GM Aleksander Mista plays very luckily in
every game so far. Yesterday his rival,
experienced IM Aleksander Sznapik, could have
played a winning move few times in the game.
Fortunately for Mista he felt much better than
his oponent in a sharp play and eventually he
won. Last leader looks like oposition to the
other two. GM Vadim Malakhatko won every game in
a solid, positional play, showing a great
experience in such game style.
Great chance to be a co-leader had GM Monika
Socko. After playing almost whole game with pawn
up to GM Marcin Dziuba she couldn't finally break
a tough defence of polish grandmaster. Also GM
Siergiey Zhigalko could be slightly
dissapointedafter not being able to win against
GM Krzysztof Jakubowski, though after the
oppening his position looked very promising. A
lot of luck had another fovourite, GM Bartlomiej
Macieja, who get an inferior, maybe lost position
against Tomek Rej. Finally he managed to
transform it into worse, but drawish rook
endgame. Even though he can't be satisfied with
this result
Today on the first two boards games
Mista-Malakhatko and Zhigalko-Radulski awaits us.
They may be important for the rest of the
tournament.
